Vechur Cattle

These cattle are small-sized with an average weight of about 130 kg for cows and 170 kg for bulls, and height below 90cm. The animals have a solid color. Shades of red, black, chocolate, sandal, white fawn, or white are commonly seen.

The head is long with a narrow face with horns small, thin, and curved forward. Hump is prominent in males. Legs are short and the tail is long, almost touching the ground. The udder is well attached squarely placed with small tapering teats. The milk vein is well developed. Milk production was found to be 2.5 kg/day during the lactation period. The age at first heat and at first calving were 19 and 36 months respectively. The inter calving period was 14 months.
