An initiative that spearheaded a series of projects aimed at the conservation and sustenance of endangered breeds in Kerala
The Vechur Conservation Trust is a charitable organization with operations throughout the State of Kerala. Vechur Conservation Trust is the pioneer agency with regard to the conservation of Domestic Animal Diversity (DAD) in Kerala.
The Trust has always worked with adjoining communities and ecosystems that recognize the importance of conserving species endemic to India and vital towards maintaining the biodiversity balance of the region.
The conservation is to be done in different locations along with the community partnership. Since it was not feasible for farmers to rear bulls, semen was supplied from the original conservation unit in the Kerala Agriculture University (KAU). The Trust advocates Livestock keeper’s rights and has published a translated booklet on the subject.
